Hothouse is the first in a series of EPs from Scissor Sister Del Marquis. The EP is an emotional collection of tunes, heavily influenced by blue-eyed soul and melodic pop.
Says Del about the music, ‘I was interested in the production and sentiment of bands such as Style Council, ABC, and Prefab Sprout, if you don’t know these great bands, you should get acquainted.’
Del and Embryoroom Multimedia Group have created a series of digital motion shorts that will be released
in episodic form with each EP. The video project has
a sci-fi edge that compliments the pop sheen of the EPs.
The initial episode, The Third Rail, Del plays a character named ‘Viz,’ shackled as his train speeds towards an unknown destination. Why he is prisoner and of whom, remains a mystery.
Viz passes in and out of consciousness, as waking and dreaming are a blur. His memory is manipulated and his identity scanned by a figure in the darkness. As Viz is identified and his visions absorbed, he seemingly becomes an image of his own fear.
